First Day of Autumn, REALLY?

September 22, 2014

From D.H. Lawrence (English author 1885-1930):  “The autumn always gets me badly, as it breaks into colors.  I want to go south, where there is no autumn, where the cold doesn’t crouch over one like a snow-leopard waiting to pounce.”

Ah reckon Mr. Lawrence would be very content with our lack of a definitive autumn in our desert cities.  No cold spells crouching around here!  I must say though, our nights are becoming down right pleasant!   This is the desert version of autumn.  Embrace it.  Think about starting your fall and winter gardens.  Something other parts of our country can’t even contemplate unless a green house is involved.  Consider growing Betony this year, especially before Halloween.  Betony is an ancient herb that was sometimes planted in churchyards to prevent ghost activity.
