October-fest-ive

October 10, 2013
It certainly feels October-festive with most of the scalping and reseeding completed and with temperatures so comfortable that we just want to spend all day and all night outside!  Ladies & Gentlemen, start your BBQs!  Oh and don’t forget the Golf Cart Parade Oct. 27!  This is an annual Coachella Valley event that inaugurates the beginning of fall and all that the new season will bring!  Parade steps off at 1pm, Sunday October 27, 2013.  Route is along El Paseo in Palm Desert, California.  This year’s theme is “Fun in the Sun” and should be a hoot.  I remember back in the day, the Golf Cart Parade was in July.  It was touted as an event for local, year round residents who were in search of a much needed diversion from the doldrums of the summer.  A sort of Christmas in July kinda thing.  We came out and rooted on our favorites, sweating and drinking the ice cold libations of choice.  And as luck would have it that was when I participated with a float.  The theme that July was something like Christmas in Paradise or Desert Paradise.   We were the Cheeseburger in Paradise golf cart float, complete with walking condiments and such.  I was a bag of French Fries.  I was a very HOT bag of French Fries.  Ah but who cares about the heat when you are with great friends, including a Jimmy Buffett impersonator, and a bottle of ketchup and mustard!  Thankfully, Palm Desert wisely moved the event to October.  Now, The Golf Cart Parade ushers in the fall season with its cooler temps and the arrival of seasonal home owners, as well as celebrating the survival of another summer in the Coachella Valley.
